5 buttons (or more depending on length)
Size: Small/Medium, but customizable.
Finished Length: 10 inches
Finished Width: 12 inches
Gauge: 4.5 sts/inch on a size 8 needle on stockinette stitch
Corded Cable Rib pattern
Row 1 & 3: *P3, k6* 5 times, p3
Row 2, 4, & 6: *K3, p6* 5 times, k3
Row 5: *P3, sl next 3 sts on the cable needle and leave those stitches at the back of the work, k3 sts, k3 sts from cable needle* five times, k3
CO 48 sts, long tail cast on
Work 2×2 rib for 1.5 inches
Row 1: *P3, k6* 5 times, p3
Row 2: K3, BO 1 st purlwise for buttonhole, p4, K3, p6 four times more, k3
Row 3: P3, k6 four times, p3, k5, cast on 1 st backwards loop method, p3
Work buttonhole every 1.5 inches.
4 and 6: *K3, p6* 5 times, k3
Row 5: *P3, sl next 3 sts on the cable needle and leave those stitches at the back of the work, k3 sts, k3 sts from cable needle* five times, k3
Work six rows in pattern.
Increase row: P1, M1P, P2, k6, p3, k6 four more times, p2, m1p, p1; 50 sts total.
Work 5 rows in pattern.
Work six rows in pattern remembering to include buttonhole if needed.
Increase row: P1, M1P, p4, work in pattern until last st, M1P, p1; 52 sts.
Work 5 rows in pattern
Work increase row and five rows in pattern 2 times more, or desired calf width, remembering to work the buttonholes: 56 sts.
Work in pattern as established, incorporating buttonholes, until piece measures 8.5 inches or desired length. End with pattern row 6. Work in a 2×2 rib for 1.5 inches. BO in rib.
Finishing: Sew buttons adjacent to the buttonholes. Weave in ends.
